A great example of 19th Century German craftsmanship, this lidded chalice is executed in .800 silver and adorned with finely worked ivory. The domed lid is surmounted by a delicately carved ivory finial depicting a nude cymbal-dancer in dynamic pose, surrounded by five inset ivory cabochons. The chalice body features a ring of ivory with applied decorative panels of carved ivory, gracefully tapering to a turned ivory stem on an elaborate repoussé silver base, ornamented with foliage, scales and classical motifs.
Measurements: 33cm high, 330 grams.
Condition: Ivory exhibits some fractures, cracks and stains. The ivory finial reglued to the lid at some stage during its life. A dent repair evident to lid. Some dents to the foot. Please request a detailed condition report.
