Chinese pumpkin-form jar is cast in bronze. Likely used as a calligraphy brush wash, or incense holder, it was later fitted with a wood cover and sits nicely within a carved blackwood stand. The body is cast in shallow relief with what appear to be the 8 Daoist Immortals and 'luck' symbols within shaped medallions, bordered by stylised flower heads along the rim. The base bears a lobed impressed mark of prunus beside a three character inscription.

Provenance: Private Melbourne Collection, sold via auction. Assessed and appraised by David Freeman, a Government approved valuer under the Cultural Gifts Program of Australian paintings and prints after 1850.

Measurements: 17cm high (including stand) x 14cm diameter.

Condition: Bronze is in patinated condition, with surface wear and minimal verdigris commensurate with age. We have not cleaned, or polished it to preserve its original integrity. No holes, breaks, deep scratches or restoration.
