A large Victorian glass bride’s basket, the bowl of generous form with pink interior hand-painted with floral decoration, the exterior embellished with transfer-printed vignettes of a courting couple further heightened with painted floral details. Presented in its original fitted silver-plated stand.
Antique bride’s baskets, popular throughout the 19th century, were traditionally crafted in coin or sterling silver with glass inserts. Early examples held flower petals or the bride’s bouquet, while later pieces, made more affordable with silver plate, served as elegant decorative displays.
Measurements: 28cm high x 31cm diameter
Condition: Excellent, with no chips or cracks to the glass. There is wear throughout to the paintwork.
