This late Meiji or early Taisho period vase (1868-1926) bears the Japanese Fukagawa Koransha workshop blue orchid mark to the base, and is one of the finest Koransha vase designs we have ever seen. Decorated by hand in underglaze blue, three scroll panels to either side depict Mount Fuji, a stylised dragon and bamboo leaves floating amongst a heavily decorated floral background, accented with hand-enamelled blossom branches to the adjacent sides. The border beautifully finished in iron red and gold gilt, tying together what is no less than a complex composition.

Measurements: 20cm high

Condition: Excellent, with no chips, cracks or restoration. There is some rubbing around the top of the gilt rim. Two minuscule pin sized holes and minor decorating imperfections in the porcelain from firing.

Provenance: Previously sold by BONHAMS: Asian Decorative Arts, 9 November 2010 in San Francisco on behalf of a deceased estate collection. Acquired and held in an Australian Collection since.
