A Royal Worcester porcelain twin-handled vase, finely decorated and signed by the esteemed artist Richard Sebright, circa 1908. The elegant baluster form is flanked by ornate scroll handles. The body is enriched with a soft pink ground, embellished with profuse gilt ornament and delicate raised beadwork. Centrally, an oval reserve displays a superb hand-painted fruit study, signed “R. Sebright” at the lower left.
Artist Profile: Richard Sebright is widely regarded as the best fruit painter in the history of Royal Worcester, and indeed, among the finest ever to work in the genre. His association with the Royal Worcester factory spanned an extraordinary fifty-six years, during which time he devoted himself entirely to the meticulous craft of fruit painting.
Unlike many of his colleagues, who were paid by their output, Sebright pursued an altogether different standard. His method was painstaking and each piece was executed with the highest level of attention to detail that set him apart, though it often meant he earned considerably less than faster, less exacting painters.
Measurements: 19cm high x 16cm from handle to handle
Condition: No chips, cracks, or repairs. The paintwork exhibits a few superficial surface scratches. Some small losses to the enamelled beadwork are present on the flower petals encircling the central painted reserve. All minor observations that are not easily visible with the naked eye.
