Saugeen First Nation is an Ojibwe First Nation band located along the Saugeen River and Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada, with a population of approximately 2,000. Presented here is a hand-crafted birchbark canoe model, dating to the late 1960s, attributed to an Ojibwe maker and faithfully replicating an early traditional canoe design. Presented on two later pine display stands.
Measurements: 45cm long x 10cm deep x 17cm high including stands.
Provenance: Private Melbourne Collection, sold at deceased estate sale. Assessed and appraised by David Freeman, a Government approved valuer under the Cultural Gifts Program.
