A highly ornate Spanish silver sculpture of a peacock, crafted by the studio of the renowned silversmith Dionisio Garcia. Made of .916 silver, the peacock is rendered with lifelike features, featuring finely chased feathers, detailed plumage, and a poised stance. Its high-relief craftsmanship and delicate remnants of parcel gilt mark it as a prime example of mid 20th-century Spanish silverwork. It is marked "Made in Spain" below the foot and there are illegible purity hallmarks, and potentially a maker's mark that have rubbed away from the years of surface wear.

Measurements: 20cm high x 29cm long, with a weight of 342 grams

Condition: The sculpture is structurally sound with no cracks or repairs. We have left it unpolished, retaining the original patina, which highlights the finely chased details. Minor casting imperfections from handcrafting are present, typical of period silverwork. The original parcel gilding is largely lost, with only traces remaining. Light surface wear consistent with age.

Biography: Dionisio García Gómez was a renowned Madrid silversmith in the first half of the 20th century. After his apprenticeship to silversmith DH Adradas he opened his own workshop in calle Fernán Nuñez. Soon after, he became Royal Silversmith to the King Alfonso XIII and moved to Ferraz 17, where the factory operated with approximately 100 workers. Continuing his success and expansion, in 1920 he opened a store in calle de la Sal, 2 and 8, and later in Esparteros, 16 and 18. Dionisio García Gómez died in 1925, at the age of 37, leaving a thriving business to his widow sons.
The management of the business was assumed by D. Antonio Sánchez Fernández, a personal friend of Dionisio. The factory continued to expand its activity but by 1981 it went bankrupt having to close both the factory and the shops.
