A Substantial Balkan 0.800 Silver Filigree & Coral Bracelet

A substantial and elaborately handcrafted filigree bracelet in .800 silver, comprising five large decorative panels, each set with a natural pink coral cabochon. Fitted with a secure pin-lock clasp, the bracelet dates to the second half of the 20th century and is characteristic of the traditional silversmithing traditions of the Balkan region, particularly Kosovo and Bosnia.

This traditional silversmithing technique is highly labour-intensive, requiring considerable patience and skill to shape silver wire into intricate forms. Historically, the craft has been passed down through generations, often from father to son. However, due to the time-intensive nature of the process and the demands of the trade, this traditional trade is unfortunately dying as younger generations pursue alternative professions.

Measurements: 18.5cm long x 3.7cm wide, with a total weight of 66.3 grams.

Condition: Excellent, with no signs of damage. 

Hallmarks: Jewellery from these regions were rarely marked, however the bracelet has been XRF tested and returned a reading of 0.800 silver content.
