A late 19th Century brooch by esteemed Australian jeweller Willis and Sons (Melbourne), finely constructed from 9ct rose gold with a yellow gold wash, with a central stylised harp hosting 8 beautiful well-matched seed pearls. Original C-clasp and metal pin to the reverse.
In Victorian jewellery, the harp is most commonly associated with Irish identity and heritage, reflecting national pride or ancestral connections. More broadly, brooches that were commissioned by a jeweller often represented the personal connection the wearer would have to music or harmony.

Age: c1890

Size: 5.7cm x 2cm, with a weight of 3.6 grams.

Condition: In remarkable condition for its age, no repairs nor replacement pearls and claws unworn. Some light rubbing throughout of the gold wash adding to its Victorian charm. Bears very legible, unworn hallmarks on the reverse.

Hallmarks: Hallmarked with the Willis and Sons iconic ‘Unicorn’ head, '9' indicating 9ct gold and ‘W’ again for Willis.
