A Victorian 9ct Gold & Turquoise Buckle Brooch, c1860

A Victorian 9ct yellow gold buckle brooch, finely engraved and set with twelve natural cabochon turquoise, dating to circa 1860, potentially for an earlier origin around 1850. The reverse fitted with a pin and hook clasp, together with a suspension ring allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant. The union of the buckle motif and turquoise is emblematic of love, fidelity and prosperity, a popular symbolic design in mid-Victorian jewellery. Unmarked and XRF tested as 9ct gold. 

Measurements: 5cm x 3cm, with a weight of 6.89g.
