Greece, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, circa 340 to 325 BCE.
A stunningly shaped wheel-thrown pottery lekythos of squat form, with a bulbous body and an unusual tall handle. The tall handle is an uncommon feature for a lekythos, more typically encountered on larger oinochoai. Adorning the front of the vessel is an elegant right-facing 'Lady of Fashion', rendered with striking eyes and an elaborate headdress, framed by decorative motifs on either side of the body.

Measurements: 11.5cm high (4.5 inches)

Condition: We can detect no evidence of restoration. The entire piece retains remnants of dirt and encrustation as images show, likely consistent with prolonged burial, and we have neither attempted nor intend to clean it. The painted decoration remains legible and is, for the most part, well preserved. No chips or cracks are detectable. Overall, the vessel is in outstanding condition for an object approaching 2,500 years in age.

Provenance: French Private Collection, Leonard Joel (Melbourne).

Certificate of Authenticity included, which details all of the above information.
