Title: The Great Ocean Road
Oil on Canvas, mounted on board, signed lower left.
Estimated to have been painted around the 1940's. Holst may have had a soft spot for The Great Ocean Road, which was primarily built by returned soldiers to provide employment and honour fallen comrades.

Provenance: Private Art Collection, Geelong VIC.
Condition: Overall in good condition. Some light dirt and surface grime which can be attended to with a light clean. Frame has surface wear and 2 nail holes along the sides where it appears to have been affixed to a wall.
Biography: Arnold Holst was an important Australian artist based in Melbourne, associated with the tonalist movement, alongside artists such as Max Meldrum, Clarice Beckett & Percy Leason.. Having served in World War I in the AIF (Australian Wireless Squadron), he returned home and established himself as a skilled artist, specialising in still life and en-plein-air landscapes. Holst held a popular solo exhibition at the Athenaeum Gallery in Melbourne in 1950, which was highlighted in 'The Age' Newspaper.
