A good sized example of a terracotta lady, her features sensitively modelled and her hair gathered to the left side of the head. Likely conceived as an architectural element, the sculpture reflects the refined decorative traditions of the Majapahit period, 14th–15th century. Mounted on a custom walnut museum stand for display (removable).
The Majapahit Empire, among the last great Hindu polities of the Indonesian archipelago, flourished as a centre of artistic, religious, and cultural synthesis in the region.
Provenance: From the collection of Madame Suzanne Gozlan, thence by descent.
Measurements: 20cm high x 7cm wide (including display stand)
Condition: In good preserved condition, with surface wear consistent with age. No substantial chips or cracks.
