Measurements: 60cm x 42.5cm (artwork). Mounted in a thin brushed metal frame (82cm x 62cm).

Condition: The work is presented behind glass and is in overall good condition. Scattered areas of foxing are visible throughout; these have been stabilised through conservation and are not extensive. Light yellowing is present along the lower edge.

Biography: Noel Counihan is seen as Australia’s most important social realist artist and is still debated today because his art raises uncomfortable questions about power, inequality, and the role of art in politics. Counihan believed art should serve ordinary people, not elites. His subjects were factory workers, the unemployed, protesters, soldiers, and victims of war and capitalism. His works are held in every major Australian gallery, as well as in many overseas collections.
