Provenance: Private Melbourne Collection, sold at deceased estate sale. Assessed and appraised by David Freeman, a Government approved valuer under the Cultural Gifts Program of Australian paintings and prints after 1850.
Condition: Overall in good condition. Some light dirt and surface grime to paper. Yellowing around matt board edges. Frame has light surface wear but is sturdy and presents very elegantly. No evident rips or tears to paper.
Biography: Born in Melbourne in 1919, Watson became a painter and industrial designer early on in his career. He painted predominantly in oils, with his style encompassing impressionism, figural painting and geometric abstraction. His works are held in several major Australian galleries and collections, including the National Gallery of Australia.
